Graves Disease: Conventional vs. Holistic Treatment
Society leads us to believe that traditional medical and prescription treatments are the only solution to curing any health related problem, including Graves' disease. This belief is due to the over marketing and constant bombardment by the conventional medical community. However, conventional medicine and treatments are not all that they seem to be. They forget to treat one major factor: the underlying source of the disease.
So, lets take a look at what these treatments are.
The conventional approach to treating Graves' disease is to limit the amount of thyroid hormone circulating in the blood.
This is accomplished by:
1) Anti-thyroid drugs which inhibit thyroid hormone production.
2) Radioiodine ablation in which thyroid cells are destroyed, thereby limiting the amount of thyroid tissue available for producing thyroid hormone
3) In some cases surgery, usually a partial thyroidectomy in which the majority of the thyroid gland is removed.
However, conventional treatments do not attack the real problem associated with Graves disease. Typical drugs slow down the immune system, which is counter productive and will lead to a host of other health concerns. Radioiodine is used until the patient goes into spontaneous remission, but it still has not solved the underlying problem and patients nearly always eventually become hypothyroid. Worse yet is surgery. Surgery will only lead to other thyroid problems and a continuous dependency on drugs.
Alternative medicine has the same goals as conventional treatment, but most importantly, it does not add to the problem.
The holistic approach also aim to reduce the amount of thyroid hormone produced by the gland. But, alternative treatments also target the immune system! The holistic approach aims at not only curing the symptoms, but also solving the underlying source of the problem, not to mention helps you create a healthier body.
In fact many Graves' disease patients have gone into remission using alternative means alone. Others have used a combination of anti-thyroid drugs and alternative medicine. And others have used antithyroid drugs until their thyroid levels fell into the normal range, and then have weaned themselves off these dangerous drugs using alternative medicine.
Most important note to take from this!
Alternative and holistic treatments can, and should be used, for all Graves Disease patients, no matter what treatments have or have not yet been done. Not only are drug therapy and other conventional treatments dangerous, they are also, (in milder cases) not necessary at all. They are simply the product of the medical mindset in America.
It is in your best interest to not only follow alternative treatments, but also start them as soon as you can. The quicker you start treating the underlying problem, the more effective the outcome.
You owe it to yourself to start treating Graves’ disease using alternative treatments.

I was referred to an acupuncturist in Seattle (from a friend of my mother's, who she met in Las Vegas). It's a couple hour drive there and back. I can say, I finally feel normal. I sleep, when I should sleep, I'm awake, when I should be awake, and my energy level is back. I was a little nervous about the whole needle situation, but felt silly, after realizing how painless it really was. I take a couple herbs, and a lot of them, and once again, was surprised how they did not bother me at all (and I have a sensitive stomach). Within 3 days I was feeling much better, and my home-schooled teenager noticed a big difference. I see the acupuncturist regularly now, even my mother sees him and feels better than ever, she has a thyroid problem too,

Well there is no 'miracle' pill or drug, there is no better remedy then a little it of exercise. A little a day can go a very long way. That said, if you do take any supplement or product you should also include an exercise program. You can find many at your local health food store or drug store. I have used many myself, none have worked better than eating right, exercising, and changing some of my habits.
Hope this helps.
